My Interst in South America

Mi Interesta En America de Sur

So by now, you are probably wondering, why South America? My interest in South America started during my childhood, when I heard my grandparents in Florida talk about Fidel Castro. I wondered, who is Fidel Castro, and why should I care? An amusing incident, which triggered my love of Latin America was my brother. He just got his glasses and claimed they belonged to Manuel Norieaga ex-dictator of Panama. Sure enough, somebody called up for Manuel Norieaga. LOL! This interest in Latin America continued into my undergrad at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

I signed up for Spanish and a Latin American politics course. These courses made me interested in Latin America immediately. In particular, Chile during Salvador Allende's presidency (1970-1973) please see: http://www.pages.drexel.edu/~mml44/final. As you can see on my Allende page, I wrote my senior thesis on the people's role in destabilizing Allende's government.

This project combines my love of Spanish, Latin America, and yes, HTML (yes, HTML). So, I am very excited with this project.

Dreamweaver

To make my intro-page, I need to launch Dreamweaver. After attempting numerous tries in class, I did not succeed. Perhaps it was the computer or myself causing the problem. My problem was restricted access and not allowing permission to launch Dreamweaver. I am almost certain, that I overlooked a step.

One of the causes was my ftp password did not take. Although I am in the IST program, I cannot understand every computer problem. That does not mean I will not succeed.

Images

Everyone is familiar with the saying, "a picture is worth a thousand words." For my assignment, I want to include various images on my websites. So far, I am not having any luck. I believe that the command: img src="image.url" />. Is this correct?

Wikipedia has some interesting images, which are copyright free for users. I would like to include these images in my project.

Problems With Project

Tuesday, 6 November 2007

Problems Associated With Project
There are some problems associated with the completion of my project. One problem pertains to finding adequate and recent information on South American countries. Finding information on Bolivia and Uruguay proves difficult. Authors on Latin American History only focus on Cuba, Chile, Arentina, Peru, and Central American countries. Trying to find information about Paraguay, Guyana, French Guyana, and Dutch Suriname is quite impossible. So, this project has many limitations. However, I can prevent those limitations by conducting further research.Another problem is the visitor's familarity with South America. On average, visitors will not be experts on the subject of South America. Therefore, I will write my project to make visitors familiarized with South American countries by providig maps, and offer as much information as possible.Images are another problem I am encountering. I want to include images and avoid improper copyright laws. Different sites have numerous laws pertaining to using images on websites. Wikimedia can assist me in properly using images.By conducting research properly, I will find a logical solution to all these problems.Links:http://www.matlario.blogspot.comhttp://www.mlario.blogspot.comwww.pages.drexel.edu/~652/Table.html

Project Information

I created these websites to educate visitors to my site about South America. Here are the learning objectives:

1.) To understand the history of South America (the information I provided)

2.) Become familiar with United States and South American foreign relations.

3.) Develop a knowledge of the literature pertaining to South America.

4.) Insight into major political conflicts and change in South America.

5.) Understand the vast differences in democracy between United States and South America (i.e., in United States citizens elect a President, in South America, military or revolutionaries take over the position).

6.) Role of the media in South America and United States media pertaining to South America.By viewing these websites, visitors should understand major concepts presented in the pages.

South American Leaders

For my INFO 652 Internet Resource Design project, I will create websites of 20th, and 21st century leaders from South America. This project will include 5-8 different websites of South America's most well known leaders. Websites will include a biography, significance of Presidency, book reviews, and additional links.

I majored in Latin American History as an undergrad at Stockton College. All of these countries fascinate me and I want to learn more about them. My purpose behind making these websites is to inform users about Latin American leaders and its wonderful history. I excluded Guyana, French Guyana, and Dutch Suriname because very little information exists on these countries.

The webpages will have various titles elucidating each Presidents' significance in their respective countries. Chile will be called Chile's Socialist Experiment Gone Awry, Peru and Fujimori: A Nation In Jeopardy, Stroessner's Country, and Chavez: Dictatorship or Democracy?

My ideas for the color palettes will include the counrty's flags. So, Peru would be red and white. A couple problems arise because Colombia and Venezuela share the same colors. Also, not all the flags are eye-pleasing.
